1. The driving route is everything!
At Motor Range, we have a variety of courses already planned however you need to know how this car will fit into your life. Plan a route that allows you to see how the car deals with the kind of roads you travel on every day (given it is within a reasonable radius in Liverpool). Make sure your route provides a mix of roads to get a real feel for how it handles all situations.
It is important to have full concentration on the drive; switch the radio off and listen, make sure the sounds it makes while driving aren’t annoying.
2. Explore the car park
Before beginning your journey, use the car park to get a feel for the car. We have an excellent car park at our car dealership in Liverpool for you to do this. This is a great moment to allow yourself that time to adjust to driving something different, but it is also a good time to see how the car parks and if it is easy to maneuver.
If you experience difficulty with parking before the journey be sure to finish your test drive with a last attempt, as that extra time to get used to the wheel and pedals can make all the difference.
3. Bring the family
If you have children, then you will know they very much determine your choice of used car, so you need to make sure it is comfortable and has enough room.
Bringing them on the test drive is the best way to do this, it allows you to check the car and see how it handles in your everyday situations.
4. Examine everything
All the buttons, reverse cameras, Bluetooth systems, windscreen wipers… we think you get the picture, try everything!
A test drive is exactly that; it is for you test every aspect of the car. Finding out about the interior is just as important as how it drives, so don’t be afraid to check the in-car sound system or the reverse cameras, test it all :)
5. Don’t just stop there
So your test drive with a car is over, and you feel it is pretty perfect; don’t just stop there! Even if you feel it is the one, make sure you test a couple other cars and even have a try with different engine sizes to put your mind at rest that you are making the right decision.
There is no harm in exploring your options and can even make you more satisfied with the original car.
This completes our top tips on how to test drive like a pro but most importantly the thing to remember is to take your time! Buying a car is important, so allow yourself that time to make an educated decision.
